Construction Drones Taking Off

Have you ever wondered what your building’s roof looks like?  Just what exactly is up there?

Many building owners and managers have never had the chance to climb up and take a look for themselves, but now we can deliver those answers quickly and securely using drone cameras.

We recently purchased a drone and are excited about the benefits it will bring to our clients and job sites.

Because aerial image capable drones can capture images or video from all phases – and angles – of the construction process, we can now provide dynamic, real-time updates and peace of mind to off-site building owners.  Drone footage also saves owners the expense of hiring a professional photographer to capture completed projects.

Those images can also be quickly incorporated within company websites, social media or other marketing materials.  And aerial photography is a striking element that can easily impress investors or generate excitement about new projects among existing employees.  Generic, static renderings of the past now come alive with an immediate bird’s eye view from hundreds of feet above ground.

During construction, it’s also important for project managers and superintendents to have a set of eyes constantly monitoring schedules and resources.  Using regular flight footage, drones can quickly monitor daily progress and material levels, ensuring that the project is completed on time and within budget.  Drones are also capable of efficiently accessing difficult or dangerous areas, eliminating undue risk for crews and subcontractors.

Along the same lines, drone footage and live streaming video feeds can also be a cost-effective method to complete necessary inspections.  It’s never been easier to evaluate storm damage or investigate maintenance concerns.

While the benefits of construction drones are clear, it’s important to note that the FAA has issued regulations for using unmanned aircraft systems in commercial applications.  We continue to research federal and state requirements and operate within the established guidelines.
